BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – Pangasinan’s men and women basketball teams grabbed the bronze and silver medals respectively at the 2018 National Batang Pinoy, September 21.
Despite the postponement of the said competition due to super typhoon Mangkhut, San Carlos City’s Franz Salazar, Jharene Pontawe and Ahlannah Sarmiento of Team Pangasinan competed with the dominating opponent of the Visayas region, Team Cebu for championship in basketball women and placed second.
Meanwhile, the basketball men composed of Mark Gelou Bucog, Arjay Junatas, Hans Daniel Diaz, Gelo Dela Cruz, Christian Aterado and Michael Swirtszinsky, worked hard together as they battled for third place against Team Olongapo.
SDS Sheila Marie A. Primicias congratulated coaches Dominador Menor of Saint Charles Academy, Joey Paras of Bolingit NHS and athletes of San Carlos City for their fine performance despite the short preparation against seasoned rivals.
Coach Joey added that it is the team’s concerted effort that made them win.
The 2018 Batang Pinoy is a multi-sports competition for Filipino youth ages 15 years old and below or those born on the year 2002.
