San Carlos City, Pangasinan — Mostly draped in green and white with orange neckerchief, a quintuple of thousand campers from the six congressional districts of Pangasinan converged at the SEPNAS farm site for the grand opening program of the 69th Girl Scouts of the Philippines Provincial Camp with the theme “Be Prepared: Girl Scouts in Action,” late afternoon on November 29. Like the BSP Provincial Camp, it is the first time of San Carlos City to host a GSP Provincial Camp in 3 decades.

The program, hosted by Racquel Garcia and Odesa Pagdanganan, Senior High School teachers of the host division, was commenced with the entrance of the campers and camp staff followed by a doxology which was led by SEPNAS senior girl scouts. Irene Rayos Ombac senior girl scouts, Polong NHS senior girl scouts, and a certain scout, Ronielyn Cuison led the entrance of colors, singing of the National Anthem, Panunumpa sa Watawat, rededication to the GS Promise and Law, singing of Pangasinan Hymn, and raising of the council flag.

The GSP Coordinator of San Carlos City Division, Dr. Vilma Beltran welcomed the participants and exhorted them with the wise words of Maria Bartiromo, “The Girl Scouts of the Philippines is an organization that constantly gives you new goals to achieve and that’s what life is all about.”In behalf of the city mayor, Hon. Joseres “Bogs” Resuello, who was attending another event of equal importance, City Administrator Voltaire Enrico Cabuay, delivered the welcome address. The administrator, a boy scout at heart, relayed the lessons he learned from scouting. “Scouting teaches us leadership, independence, and having fun,” he conveyed.The council president of the province, Hon. Judy Vargas, in her opening remarks, emphasized values formation in scouting. The councilor exclaimed, “It is in girl scouting that we instill the values in each of us… We are here honing you, molding you into better individuals and to the best ladies that you can be balang araw.” “Kayo ang susunod sa amin… and we will get those [next leaders] from a breed of good girls and they will come from the girl scouts kasi iba ang training natin,” she further asserted.

Camping Committee Vice-Chair Daisy Mayola (representing Chairman Shirley Enerva), and the camp directors, Mrs. Jocelyn Ponce and Mrs. Racquel Dela Cruz, presented the camp guests and staff. Dr. Shiela Marie A. Primicias esteemed the campers to the ISO certified schools division of San Carlos with 100% ISO 9001:2015 aligned schools which meant, according to the division’s chief, “We want to give you [the campers] the best service to make you feel your importance.” The devoted SDS then invited the participants to sing “Tagumpay Nating Lahat” with her while an AVP of the division’s “ISO Journey” was playing in the background.

Plaques of recognition were awarded to the host division, the local government of San Carlos City, and the host school and were received by SDS Primicias, City Administrator Cabuay and Mrs. Anita de Vera, respectively. .

After an intermission number from the San Carlos City troop leaders, the camp opening was declared; the encampment torch was lit; the encampment song, “Together We Can” was sung which was led by Mrs. Marieta Santiago; the camp balloons were released; and the camp ribbon was cut.

The provincial camp was held from November 29 through December 2.
